The Territory Labor Government has today notified more than 103 property owners in the Rapid Creek catchment area of their reduced impacts to flooding, following the release of updated flood mapping.
Due to work being undertaken and completed in 2019 at the Rapid Creek Catchment and stormwater detention basin there is now a reduced impact of flood for many Territory families.
Combined with other flood mitigation measures, the new detention basin will significantly reduce the impact of flooding on downstream properties, including:
45 properties that are no longer on the Rapid Creek flood map; and
58 properties that are no longer on the Darwin Storm Surge primary flood extent map.
Colbert County commission approves grants for new storm shelter, weather radios

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - A regional grant will soon benefit several counties in Northwest Alabama, including Colbert County. The money will be used to buy weather radios and build a new storm shelter.
“Now with tornado season coming up we have multiple sources of warnings, but there’s never too many sources for a warning,” said Keith Reaves.
Keith Reaves with the Colbert County EMA said more than 450 radios will be distributed across five counties, leaving Colbert County with 91 radios.
The 2021 Texas winter storm brought long term damages to many. Spice Village in downtown Waco is still closed due to a pipe that broke on the third floor flooding the second and first floors below.
